Nehalem Motherboard Has to Use 8-layer PCB

Fudzilla reports that Intel has encountered a little trouble on the design of the motherboard supported by Nehalem processor, and they can’t reduce cost by using the design of 8-layer PCB.

The main problem lies in the 3-channel DDR3 memory supported by Nehalem. This memory has a high requirement for the motherboard and demands accurate wiring length, or the data series can not operate simultaneously. Therefore, the initial Nehalem processors will be paired with 8-layer PCB motherboards.

Generally, only motherboard with 6 or 8-layer PCB can be listed, and it will be changed into 6 layers or less when it becomes mature .The previous design of Intel’s motherboards has followed this rule, but now Intel can not use PCB whose layer is less than eight, and they even ask the motherboard manufacturers for help.

If Intel can not achieve this, later the price of X58 motherboard will be very high. And consumers are unwilling to see it.

Good news from the German PCB market: PCB manufacturer’s sales rose 7.2% in July in contrast to last month, which is the third consecutive rise in those days。

This was the highest sales index since November 2008. However, when compared with the same period last year, lower 1 / 3. Orders in July 2009 arises surprisingly- is 122% higher than June, even 2.5% more than in July 2008. According to the figure of the first 7 months of this year, it only reached half the level a year earlier.

In July, the number of employees of the PCB enterprises fell by 3.3%. Despite the measures taken to reduce working hours, the value of July in the past 10 years, is still the lowest. In the past 12 months, a total loss of more than 2,000 jobs, this trend is likely to continue, because news about factories closing was announced continuously.

Industry Revival to Accelerate in the Next Two Years

The ongoing electronics industry revival will gather considerable momentum during the next two years. Global electronic equipment production will transition from a record 9.5% contraction in 2009 to a robust 10.5% expansion in 2011. But the industry recovery will be gradual. Only a 6.5% gain is predicted for 2010.
Double-digit unemployment rates and the need to rebuild ravaged nest eggs will undercut consumer purchases of cars and electronic products.
And profit-challenged corporations awash in excess operating capacity will be in no hurry to invest in new Information Technology hardware.
